The Azmi Foundation was founded by Dr. Azhar Azmi — a physician who for 18+ years funded free meals, free medicines, clothes and medical aid for the poor and homeless of Ahmedabad, largely out of his own clinic income. The foundation is the reason IBNAY exists the way it does: a commercial engine explicitly built to continue and scale a pre-existing legacy of service.
Personal-savings-funded charities are fragile. When the founder's health fails, the mission stalls. Dr. Azhar Azmi has faced chronic kidney disease, brain haemorrhage, seizures, Parkinson's and multi-organ failure — with multiple public fundraisers on Milaap and ImpactGuru between 2024 and 2026.
Shahbaaz — his son, and a practising BDS dentist in Ahmedabad — continues the charitable work publicly while building IBNAY as a durable commercial engine whose margins can eventually fund the foundation independently of any single person's health or savings.
The foundation continues to serve. IBNAY's long-term thesis is that commercial verticals (Azmi Care, IBNAY Denim, $IFTribe, software/AI contracts) should contribute recurring, non-personal revenue back into the foundation's mission.
Most startups attach a charity as an after-thought. IBNAY is unusual in the opposite direction: the charity came first (2008), the commercial holding came later (2025), and the holding is openly structured to serve the charity rather than the other way around.
